When does my child need to see a Paediatric Occupational Therapist?
It may not always be clear when kids are just being kids or if it’s time for an occupational therapist to intervene for the child’s benefit. Your child would benefit from Paediatric Occupational Therapy Service when they experience some challenges in one or more areas outlined below:
Not reaching developmental milestones of sitting, crawling, and walking
Not developing age appropriate play and social skills
Difficulties with Manipulating toys and puzzles, Holding a pencil, using zipping, shoelaces etc
Not developing a hand dominance at an age-appropriate time
Avoiding tasks and games that require fine motor skills
Avoiding stimuli such as touch, movement, sights, sounds and other sensations or Under-responsive to certain sensations (e.g. high pain tolerance, doesn’t notice cuts/bruises)
